With summer quickly approaching, I have been gathering up info on various happenings going in our area. I have been looking as far away as Cleveland, (as my husband drives close to there everday) and Pittsburgh. I started this list for myself, but thought some of you might benefit from it so here goes

April 11
Animal Baby Shower
Sunday, 10 am - 4 pm
    Bring your family to celebrate the new arrivals at the MetroParks Farm. Visit the newborn lambs, calves, chicks, kids, ducklings, and more. Cake and punch will be served while supplies last.

April 17
“Green” Kite Workshop
Saturday, 11 am - 1 pm
    Join the high-flying “green” fun! In preparation for next week’s Kite Festival, construct a kite from used paper and plastic materials and then test it out. We’ll provide basic design ideas, as well as plenty of ”trash” for construction. You provide the creativity (and scrap materials from home if you wish.) Free, but pre-register by calling Ford Nature Center by April 16. Held at Judge Morley Pavilion.

April 22
An Earth Day Celebration
Thursday, 7 pm
    The 40th anniversary of Earth Day will be celebrated at Mill Creek MetroParks with a special program that will be held at the Ford Nature Center. Join James Rinier and Benjamin Foote, professors emeritus from Kent State University for a discussion about the last four decades of our environment and the challenges we still face today.
    Professor Rinier served as advisor for KSU's Conservation major and is a recent inductee into the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Hall of Fame. Professor Rinier, who taught geography, created the natural resources program at Kent.
    After retirement, Dr. Foote, an entomologist, team-taught environmentally oriented continuing education courses with Rinier. He received the Ohio Biological Survey's Herbert Osborn Award in 2003. Both of them are well-known for their ability to hold an audience's attention.
    Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-Wisconsin) as an environmental teach-in to promote awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment.  Earth Day is celebrated in many countries every year.

April 24
Kite Festival
Saturday, 11 am – 3 pm
    Lift your spirits and your kites on the warm spring breezes. This year’s theme is Flying Green. Design and build your own kite using materials you would ordinarily throw away! Bring your family and your kites to share the skies and the fun. Vendors, games, and prizes will add to the day. For details, call 330-740-7107. Held at the MetroParks Farm.

April 29
Children’s Sneak Peek in the Gardens: Enchanted Evening
Thursday, 6 – 8 pm
    Created just for children accompanied by their adult companions, Ballet Western Reserve and the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens present this special evening of dance. Before the performance, children will learn basic dance steps and enjoy cupcakes and lemonade. Call Ballet Western Reserve to register at 330-744-1934.
